Blockchain Technology A blockchain is a decentralized, distributed and public digital ledger that is used to record transactions across many computers so that the record cannot be altered retroactively without the alteration of all subsequent blocks and the consensus of the network. A consensus mechanism is used to validate transactions. In the classic case, a digital fingerprint is calculated from each transaction block, which in turn is integrated into the next block and thus links the blocks in a certain order. The result is available to all network nodes, so past transactions can no longer be changed.
