The Himachal Pradesh University was established in the year of 1970 on dated July 22, it is located at Summer Hill which is in far of 5 kms from the town Shimla. The University campus possesses an area of 200 acres and with an innovative architect style. Himachal Pradesh University is the only university in multi-faculty and affiliated university in the Himachal state. Mission of this university is to enhance the spirit of free enquiry and to develop the independent thinking, to emerge as a knowledge center, simultaneously to improve the relevant and appropriate skills, attitudes and various experiences to meet the challenges in life. The core subject areas in the Himachal Pradesh University is biotechnology in Forestry, Agriculture and Horticulture, Mycorrhizal Technology, Cytogenetics, Ecology, Ethno Botany, Biodiversity, Wood Science, Honeybees, Plant and Animal Physiology, Taxonomy, Tourism, Export Marketing, Banking, Rural Development, Agricultural and Horticultural Studies, etc. Moreover, Himachal Pradesh University is accredited by National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) and popularly it is an UGC recognized center for excellence in Himalayan studies. The Himachal Pradesh University has set a function of planning & development section which will set the standards of the university to meet the goals, likewise preparation of the five year state annual plan, to discuss the UGC and State plan grants. So many major faculties are rendered over in this university; those are Agro-eco research, ICDEOL, institute of tribal studies, management studies, etc. Himachal Pradesh University is said to be financed by the government of Himachal and simultaneously, UGC India.
