Rajiv Gandhi University is the prime university of Arunachal Pradesh. Previously it is named as Arunachal University. This University has been completed 25 years for its existence. The university was started by Lt. Smt. Indira Gandhi on February 1984 and got academic recognition on 1985. At the very first it is only a state university where as it is converted to central university in 2007. The University is located in the Arunachal Pradesh state capital Itanagar. The University offers programmes like graduation, post-graduation, M.phil and PhD. Under Rajiv Gandhi University several affiliated colleges are also present in which some of them of private aided institutions and some are government colleges. There are different branches like basic sciences, education department, Environmental science, Life sciences, Social sciences, Commerce and Management, Engineering & Technology, Information technology and department of languages. The teaching and research programmes of the University are designed with a view to play a positive role in the socio-economic and cultural development of the State.
