Professors Charles Cook, Alexander Bickerton and John Macmillan Brown established University of Canterbury in the year 1873. University of Canterbury is the second oldest university in New Zealand. Until the year 1961 the degree was awarded by University of New Zealand, later the year the University of Canterbury awarded own degrees.
