Androgen Receptor

The androgen receptor, also known as NR3C4 is a type of nuclear receptor which is activated by binding either of the androgenic hormones, testosterone, or dihydrotestosterone in the cytoplasm and then translocating into the nucleus. The main function is to regulate gene expression.

Inhibition of androgen receptor leads to normal and malignant prostate tissue. Developing resistance can be seen after certain period i,e androgen-insensitive prostate cancer also known as hormone-refractory prostate cancer or castrate resistant prostate cancer(CRPC)
