Gastro Intestinal Stromal Tumours

Gastro intestinal stromal tumours are the uncommon tumours formed in the gastro intestinal tract. These tumours are formed in the early forms of special cells found in the wall of the GI tract, called the intestinal cells of Cajal (ICCs).ICCs are cells of the autonomic nervous system, the part of the nervous system that regulates body processes such as digesting food. More than half of GISTs start in the stomach. Most of the others start in the small intestine , but these can start anywhere in the GI tract.
