Autonomous University of Querétaro

Since 1547, Don Vasco de Quiroga being in Europe, had asked the king to send to the Jesuits in New Spain, Felipe II granted him by the certificates issued on March 26, 1571. The companys general RP Francisco Borja he ordered that Father Pedro Sanchez with 15 other priests pass to America, arriving at the New Spain the 28 September 1572. Until March 12, 1618 royal license was given to the Society of Jesus was established in Queretaro, this authorization becoming effective until 20 June 1625. A few months later, on August 20, 1625, it is based in Queretaro Colegio de San Ignacio, which in 1680 was about to be closed for lack of resources. Fortunately intervened Queretano illustrious benefactor Juan Caballero and Osio, who rebuilt the church from its foundations and the College, while splendidly founded and endowed the College of St. Francis Xavier. By decree of Carlos III, in 1767, the Jesuits were expelled from New Spain, being closed the schools and the church that was attached to them. Five years later, on September 26, 1772, the King ordered the reopening of the schools under his royal patronage, and the Viceroy José María de Bucareli appointed rector Lic. Jose Antonio of the Way Santelices. Again classes began on February 25, 1778, with teachers such as Manuel de Iturriaga, Pedro de Arce and James Brown and Peredo. Since 1981, formally they began its activities in several research centers: Center for Academic Studies on Environmental Pollution (CEACA-UAQ), 1o. February 1981 Center for Historical Research and studies-(CIEH-UAQ) and Sociological Research Centre (CIS-UAQ), Centre for Linguistic and Literary Studies (CELL-UAQ) and Centre for Research and Anthropological Studies, from October 1981 and March 1982 the Directorate of Research Centers was erected. Educational Research Workshop, which since 1979 worked in the School of Bachelors, became the Center for Education Research, in March 1984, and from then until this year, have been submitted and approved projects Center for Agricultural Research and Development (CIDAP-UAQ), Center for Research in Health Sciences (CICS-UAQ) and Basic Research Centre (CIB-UAQ). The University Extension like substantive activity important for their social and community outreach, had its beginnings in the sixties, at first actions of mere cultural and artistic dissemination, and slowly, following a plan that in the last two decades have gradually developed, with a constant presence in Queretaro, which projects the humanistic scientific knowledge and contributing to the promotion of the arts. The dissemination of culture, publishing program, broadcasting, academic outreach, social services, library and sports facilities, are so many university actions that revert to society part, only, of which the University received generous and constant form of Queretana Community.
