Biography

Prof. Anderson O.L. Wong obtained his BSc (1986) & MPhil degree (1990) in HKU (HK) and acquired his PhD (1993) in U of Alberta (Canada) under the supervision of Prof. R.E. Peter. After that, he worked as a postdoc in U of Toronto (Canada) with the support of Restracom Fellowship and as an adjunct research in National Institute of Child Health & Development, NIH (USA). He joined the Dept of Zoology, HKU in 1996 as an assistant professor, promoted to associate professor in 2003, and is now the full professor of the Endocrinology division, School of Biological Sciences (since 2010). Prof Anderson O.L. Wong is a comparative endocrinologist by training with focus on fish models, especially on (i) the novel components regulating hypothalamo- pituitary axis as well as (ii) the signal transduction and autocrine/paracrine control of pituitary hormones in representative species of the carp family. After joining HKU, he has obtained ï‚´17 GRF/CERG & NSFC/RGC grants (as PI) and ï‚´2 National 973 Basic Research Programs (as Co-I) and published a good no of high ranking journals in the field of endocrinology, including Endocrinology, Molecular Endocrinology, Am J Physiol Endocrinol Metab and Mol Cell Endocrinol. Apart from serving as guest editor/editorial broad member for 14 journals, Prof Wong was also invited to serve as reviewer/overseas assessor for grant application and research programs submitted to RGC (HK), NSERC (Canada) and Hungarian Sci Res Fund (Hungary) and took part in the organization of international meetings for comparative endocrinology, e.g., 16th Int Congress of Comparative Endocrinology (2009), 2nd Int Sym for Fish Growth and Reproduction (2009), 6th Intercongress Symposium of the Asia & Oceania Society for Comparative Endocrinology (2010), 7th Int Sym on Fish Endocrinology (2012) and 17th Int Congress of Comparative Endocrinology (2013).

Research Interest

Comparative endocrinology with focus on neuroendocrine regulation and signal transduction for pituitary hormone secretion and gene expression in fish models, especially for growth hormone, somatolactin and gonadotropins.
Functional interactions & underlying post-receptor signaling of adipokines (e.g., leptin & adiponectin) and novelfeeding peptides (e.g., spexin & apelin) with pituitary hormones in fish pituitary cells.
