I am the Paul Zuckerman Professor of Oncology and Pathology at Wayne State University, School of Medicine and Member of the NCI designated CCC. I have > 30 years of experience in cancer biology and have published numerous research articles and reviews summarizing my contributions to the field of tumor progression and metastasis, for which I have received a Merit Award, form the NCI. We were the first to clone Autocrine Motility Factor (AMF), A.K.A. Neuroleukin (NLK and Maturation Factor (MF), and reported that it is secreted in response to CKI phosphorylation and crystalized it show that it is a dimer and is a cytokine harboring the C-X-X-C motif. We were the first to show that human fibrosarcoma undergoes MET in response to AMF which is regulated by mir-200 and also is involved in EMT regulation of epithelial cancers We continue to identify its cell surface receptor, gp78/AMFR and reported it to be a transmembrane G-binding protein. We proceeded to clone it and reported that is it homologous to the yeast hrdl-1 HRD-Like (E3 ubiquitin ligase related), a finding which has open a flood gate of research. We have recently showed that AMF-gp78 are not only involved in signaling but that polyubiquitylation of AMF requires cooperation between the gp78 and TRIM25 ubiquitin ligases.
