Biography

Ji Young Cho, PhD is an Assistant Professor at the Interior Design Program in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design, Kent State University. She received her Bachelor and Master Degree in Architecture from Pusan National University, South Korea, and her PhD from University of Missouri, Columbia with the emphasis on environment and behavior studies.  She worked as a project manager and designer in Joong Ang Design, an interior and architecture design firm in Seoul, South Korea, for 10 years and designed more than 50 projects. She holds a LEED-AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional) Certificate in the USA and an Architecture Engineer License in South Korea.

Research Interest

Her line of research inquiry is in design and research methods, and aesthetics and cognition in the design process. She is also interested in exploration of new media in design education. In her dissertation, titled “The Pedagogy of Aesthetics: A Study of Three Architectural Design Studios,” she suggested a theoretical framework of the process of aesthetic education in design studios. Her ongoing research is a study of the relationship between spatial ability and creativity and the relationship between creativity and aesthetic ability among architecture and interior design students.
