Dr Karina Scurupa Machado holds MD and PhD degrees (Environmental Engineering) from the Federal University of Parana, Brazil and spent one year at University of Liverpool, UK as a part of her PhD. Currently, she is a Temporary Lecturer at Federal University of Parana. She is Environmental Chemistry expertise and very actively involved in paleoenvironmental studies. She has been investigating lacustrine and riverine sedimentary records of climate and anthropogenic changes during the late Holocene (Barigui River - South Brazil and Ohrid Lake – Albania) by geochemistry biomarkers proxies, molecular and compound-specific carbon isotopic composition of bulk organic matter and individuals lipid biomarkers. Starting in 2011, she has been leading a multiyear study that reconstructs the environmental conditions in South Brazil, in the last centuries, in response to the anthropogenic and climate changes in the transition of the Little Ice Age to the Modern Time.
