Biography

Dr. Vincent Y. Blouin is Assistant Professor at Clemson University with a joint appointment in the School of Architecture and the School of Materials Science and Engineering. Dr. Blouin graduated from Ecole Centrale Nantes, France, in 1993 and received a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2001. Dr. Blouin studied design and optimization as a post-doctoral fellow in the department of Mechanical Engineering at Clemson University. His current joint appointment in Architecture and Materials Science and Engineering allows him to bridge both departments through teaching, research and collaboration with students and faculty from two different colleges. He teaches graduate technology courses in Architecture including structures, environmental systems and building processes as well as undergraduate courses in Materials Science and Engineering. His is the major advisor of PhD and MS students in Materials Science, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Architecture.

Research Interest

Dr. Blouin’s research interests include modeling, numerical analysis, and design of architectural systems with emerging materials and technologies, such as polymeric fiber-based materials for multi-functional applications, phase-change materials for enhanced passive thermal behavior of buildings, and integration of sensors and actuators for monitoring, shape morphing, noise cancellation and energy harvesting in structures.  Dr. Blouin is involved in the development of the Clemson Zero Energy house used as a vehicle for teaching and testing new technologies.
