Maharashtra with an annual GDP of USD 220 billion is the wealthiest state in India and it contributes 12% to the Indian economy followed by Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
The Indian government has set several action plans to promote R&D. In its 2015-16 union budget, Indian government announced idea to set up National Institution to Transforming India (NITI) to give boost to scientific inventions with the involvement of entrepreneurs and researchers. India is investing largely to set up high end research centers and is expected to witness large growth in coming years in engineering, agriculture, pharma and IT sectors.
