These bioactive substances are responsible for the color, flavor, and disease resistance of plants, but they also provide numerous health benefits when consumed by humans. Unlike essential nutrients such as vitamins and minerals, phytochemicals are not required for basic bodily functions but can contribute significantly to overall health by supporting the immune system, reducing inflammation, and preventing chronic diseases. With the growing interest in plant-based diets and natural remedies, phytochemicals have become a focal point of research in nutrition and health science.
