Radiation therapy is a common and effective cancer treatment that uses high-energy radiation to kill cancer cells. It can be used as a primary treatment to cure cancer or as a supplementary treatment to reduce the size of tumors and prevent them from spreading. However, like all cancer treatments, radiation therapy has its own set of benefits and drawbacks that need to be considered when determining the best course of treatment for a patient. Radiation therapy works by damaging the DNA of cancer cells, which prevents them from reproducing and ultimately leads to their death. It is administered in a controlled setting, typically in a hospital or outpatient clinic, and can be delivered externally or internally.
