Abstract

Aim: This study is concerned with the formulation and implementation of a proposed program prepared in non-traditional way to teach how to playing piano by using a sensory input. It was considered in developing the program items that it includes two parts. First is the musical aspect represented by teaching how to play piano, and second is the sensory aspect represented in using sensory tools to try to make a change in the outputs behavior by modifying them.

Importance Of The Research: The researcher had seen that it is possible to use a suggested piano program for children with special needs to improve sensory integration dysfunction.

Problem Of The Research: Develop the use of musical responses with special need children by learning how to play piano in order to modify sensory levels, which impact many areas of the brain like cognitive, motor planning, language, behavior, emotion and lead to improve the quality of life for them.

Music And Special Need Children

Music considered as a safe, attractive and no-verbal environment that provides a medium of communication, expressive language and feelings that doesn’t need words. It helps children with special needs through its system, combinations, melody and rhythm to feel relaxed, happy, and content and can develop a sense of self awareness and many other goals. Therefore, it can contribute to the general development of special needs children. By using it as an effective method on the levels of therapeutic or educational way or a mixture of the two.

Kind Of Musical Response For Children With Special Needs:

The results of research and studies conducted on groups of special needs children determined the types of musical response for them which are as follows:

➢Involuntary response: {e.g. Change in heartbeat, breathing rate, mood changes}.

➢Semi-voluntary response: {such as tapping feet in an involuntary way while listening to music, although when paying attention, it can be controlled.

➢ Voluntary response: It can be controlled like the rhythmic movements intended to accompaniment the music.

Learning music, especially how to play a musical instrument like piano is requires the use of several human senses such as visual, auditory, motor planning.

Sensory Integration: Educational Psychologist Scientist considered life as a continuous process of adaptation constant between the organism and its environment. it remains fit between the internal growth and environmental externalities to growth in a consistent manner compatible with itself and with its surrounding environment. Human development is a successive advanced stage. Following on a regular basis which depends on its predecessor and pave them without interruption. Child can recognize himself and the world around him through sensory information which they received from sensory channel supplied by the body. He received myriad of sensory information in every moment. so, our brain is responsible for the selection of what matters to us and ignore the rest which enables to facilitate behavior planning and choose the suitable action.

Sensory integration is the child ability to receive information from senses that works together to form a complete picture of what we do, where we are and send it to the brain to process it to give appropriate responses. Sensory integration process occurs in a natural automatic way without any effort from us, that happened through various activates in the early years of the child, which help to gain the experience that we need to learn to interact successfully with the world around us, which allows us to do the appropriate adaptive response.Wherefore, any deficiencies happening in sensory integration processing makes the child as if his senses defeated him. So, he become unable to transfer any information through his nervous system. It may happen in one or more of the following stages, {Sensory Modulation Disorder (SMD), Sensory Discrimination Disorder (SDD) and Sensory-Based Motor Disorder (SBMD)} that may have an impact on his life in many ways.

Method Of The Research:-The researcher followed the descriptive analytic method (case study).

Study Results

Sensory integration disorder is one of the processes subjects to improvement and modification, which affects the child and interaction with the surrounding environment in a positive way, provided that appropriate methods are used for that.

Teaching music in general and teaching musical instrument like piano has a strong, positive and effective impact on stimulating the senses to try to overcome their sensory problems.
