Abstract

Biomaterials play a crucial role in the development of orthopedic implants, offering enhanced performance, biocompatibility, and durability in treating musculoskeletal conditions. The ongoing evolution of biomaterials has led to significant advancements in the design and functionality of orthopedic implants, such as joint replacements, fracture fixation devices, and spinal implants. Modern biomaterials, including ceramics, polymers, and composites, are being increasingly tailored to improve implant longevity and minimize complications like wear, corrosion, and biological rejection. The integration of advanced coatings, 3D printing, and bioactive materials further enhances the effectiveness of these implants. This article explores the role of biomaterials in orthopedic implants, focusing on their impact on longevity, performance, and biocompatibility. It also discusses the challenges and future directions in the development of next-generation biomaterials that can better withstand the mechanical stresses of the human body while providing improved clinical outcomes.
