Abstract

This study delves into the intricate relationship between dementia and its impact on economic and medical outcomes, exploring the multifaceted consequences for individuals, families, and healthcare systems. As the global prevalence of dementia rises, understanding the economic and medical ramifications becomes paramount for effective healthcare planning and resource allocation. Through a comprehensive examination of healthcare utilization, economic burden, and health outcomes associated with dementia, this research aims to inform policymakers, healthcare professionals, and the general public about the challenges posed by dementia and the imperative for targeted interventions and support systems.

Objectives: The primary objectives of this study are to:

Investigate the economic burden of dementia on individuals, families, and society, including direct healthcare costs and indirect societal costs.

Examine the impact of dementia on healthcare utilization, encompassing hospital admissions, emergency room visits, and outpatient care.

Assess the economic consequences of informal caregiving for individuals with dementia and explore potential interventions to alleviate caregiver burden.

Analyze the reciprocal relationship between dementia and medical outcomes, considering factors such as comorbidities, treatment adherence, and healthcare disparities.

Methods: This research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analyses of large-scale healthcare databases and economic indicators with qualitative investigations into the lived experiences of individuals affected by dementia. By integrating epidemiological data, economic modeling, and in-depth interviews, the study aims to provide a nuanced understanding of the economic and medical complexities associated with dementia.

Participants: Participants include individuals diagnosed with dementia, their caregivers, and healthcare professionals. The sample will be drawn from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and geographic locations to capture a comprehensive representation of the challenges faced by different populations.

Results: Anticipated outcomes include a detailed understanding of the economic burden of dementia, patterns of healthcare utilization, and the reciprocal relationship between dementia and medical outcomes. The results aim to inform policy recommendations, healthcare strategies, and support systems to mitigate the impact of dementia on individuals, families, and society.
