South Korea is an East Asian nation on the southern half of the Korean Peninsula and it shares one of the world’s most heavily militarized borders with North Korea. Moreover it’s equally known for its green, hilly countryside dotted with cherry trees and centuries-old Buddhist temples, plus its coastal tropical islands, fishing villages and high-tech cities such as Seoul, the capital. The official name of South Korea is the Republic of Korea (ROK). That is because its government claims to be in charge of the whole of Korea and does not recognize North Korea as separate. The ROK government is headed by a president, who is elected to a five-year term. South Korea has one of the strongest economies in Eastern Asia. Most of its wealth comes from manufacturing and service industries, such as banking. It exports ships, cars, computers, and other electronic items.

At government institutes, in universities, and also within Korea’s many world-leading corporations, a vast range of projects are undertaken: from basic research to the development of advanced technologies and innovative new commercial products. The government R&D budget supports programs in a wide variety of sectors, including high-end convergence, green resources, bioscience, welfare, and machine parts. Seoul National University is the leading Institution in Pharmaceutical Science. According to report from Nature Index, South Korea ranks fifth among the ten nations in publication of articles. Numerous pharmaceutical science journals are published from South Korea with good reputation. Several leading institution in the country including Seoul National University, Sungkyunkwan University, Sungkyunkwan University, Hanyang University, Korea University Yonsei University and others are spearheading the pharmaceutical science research.
