Russia which is officially known as Russian Federation is the largest nation in the world with an area of about 66,12,130 sq.mi of area which is almost one-eighth of the Earths inhabited land area. Russia is the world's ninth most populous country in the world as per 2015 census.

Russia contains its land area expanded in the Northern part of Asia and most of the Eastern part of Europe and it shares its boundaries with countries from northwest to southeast, Russia shares land borders with Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland (both with Kaliningrad Oblast), Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia, and North Korea. Along with this it has maritime borders with countries like Japan by the Sea of Okhotsk and the U.S. state of Alaska across the Bering Strait.

The nation's history was studied from the East Slavs, who emerged as a recognizable group in Europe between the 3rd and 8th centuries AD. which were founded and ruled by a Varangian warrior elite and their descendants, the medieval state of Rus arose in the 9th century. The Soviet era saw some of the most significant technological achievements of the 20th century, including the world's first human-made satellite, and the first man in space.
