Brazil officially the Federative Republic of Brazil is the fifth largest country by both area and population. Brazil is the largest country to have Portuguese as an official language, and the only one in the Americas. Brazil is South America's most influential country, an economic giant and one of the world's biggest democracies. It is one of the rising economic powers - otherwise known as BRIC nations - together with Russia, India, China and South Africa.
Geography of the country:
Brazil is located on the eastern coast of South America, by the Atlantic Ocean. It features an area of 8,515,692.27 km2, it is the 5th largest country in the world in terms of territorial extension. Its Amazon River basin includes a vast tropical forest, home to diverse wildlife, a variety of ecological systems, and extensive natural resources spanning numerous protected habitats. This unique environmental heritage makes Brazil one of 17 mega diverse countries, and is the subject of significant global interest and debate regarding deforestation and environmental protection.
Status of Economy, Research and Development:
The study of and politics in Brazil is arguably the most advanced of all non–organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries. Much of the credit for the depth and strength of political science in Brazil goes to Brazilians themselves. Beginning in the 1960s, Brazilian students began to come to the United States for doctoral-level study. Upon returning to Brazil, these students built strong graduate programs in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Brasília, and other cities. Non-Brazilians, mostly US and British scholars, have also contributed greatly to the development of Brazilian political science, and today cross-national collaborations are common.
Status about the different subjects in which extensive research is going on:
Peter Medawar is the only Nobel laureate in the field Physiology or Medicine in 1960 from Brazil. There are several leading institutions in the country hosting social and political research which include Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Universidade Estadual De Campinas (UNICAMP), Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) etc…Extensive research work is carried in these institutes on and the papers are published in high quality and reputed enlightening the readers with various policies in the country.
