Argentina is a South American country which is in the southeastern region and a neighbor of Bolivia, and Paraguay to the north, Brazil to the northeast, Uruguay and the South Atlantic Ocean to the east, Chile to the west and the Drake Passage to the south. The word Argentina came from a Latin word “Argentum” means silver.

Geography of the country:

Geographically, Argentina is located in southern South America sharing land borders with Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay and the South Atlantic Ocean. The country’s surface area is 2,780,400 km2 (1,073,518 sq mi). Highest point in country is Aconcagua in the Mendoza province (6,959 m (22,831 ft) above sea level) and lowest point is Laguna del Carbón in Santa Cruz province (−105 m (−344 ft) below sea level.

Status of economy, research and development:

Argentina benefits from rich natural resources, a highly literate population, an export-oriented agricultural sector, and a diversified industrial base. Agriculture in Argentine is relatively capital intensive and providing about 7% of all employment. Argentina is one of the world's wealthiest countries 100 years ago, but suffered during most of the 20th century from recurring economic crises, persistent fiscal and current account deficits, high inflation, mounting external debt, and capital flight. The economy of Argentina is third-largest in Latin America and the second largest in South America.

In Toxicology, medicine and chemistry, this Argentina produced 5 Nobel laureates so far. Argentina has established infrastructure for advanced medical and toxicology research. The Argentine Toxicological Association (ATA) is the oldest scientific entity that joins all the toxicologists of Argentina since 1975. The Universidad Nacional del Litoral and Universidad de Buenos Aires in Argentina are the leading universities in toxicology research. Numerous are published from Argentina with good reputation. Several leading universities in the country including Universities in Argentina, University of Palermo, National University of Córdoba, University of Buenos Aires and others are spearheading the medical research.
