Biography

Kirsten van der Zee is a Research Officer for the Economics of Tobacco Control Project at the University of Cape Town (UCT). She holds a Master’s degree in Applied Economics from UCT, and her Master’s thesis analyses the effects of minimum wages in the South African agricultural sector. She has research experience in development economics with a focus on labour economics and minimum wages. Her current research focuses on the collection of cigarette price data in Africa, as well as tobacco taxation and illicit trade in South Africa.
