Biography

Dr. Chris A. Whitehouse received his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology with a research focus on Lyme disease from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1997.He subsequently held a postdoctoral fellowship in th Center for Vector-Borne Diseases at the University of Rhode Island, where he participated in a wide range of multidisciplinary research including viral diagnostics, arbovirus surveillance, new virus discovery, and studies to determine the effects of climate and local weather patterns on mosquito-borne arboviruses. He is currently the Associate Director of the Center for Genomic Sciences at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick, Maryland. He is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Clinical Microbiology, The Open Microbiology Journal, Vector-Borne and Zoonotic Diseases, and Zoonoses and Public Health. He has published over 50 scientific articles, book chapters, and reviews, and co-edited a book on Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever.
