My program of research focuses on childhood obesity prevention and management in Asian American children. I am particularly interested in developing culturally sensitive and technology-friendly programs for childhood obesity prevention for low-income immigrants. As a bilingual and bicultural nurse scientist with experience and expertise in child health behaviors, I have expertise in cultural competence training and obesity prevention and management. Global obesity is a worldwide epidemic which impacts children of all ethnicities, especially children from low-income and immigrant families including Chinese immigrants. At the same body mass index, Chinese children are at higher risk of developing hypertension and cardiovascular disease than are non-Hispanic whites. As the one of the few nurse scientists to specialize in childhood obesity prevention in Asian and Asian immigrants, I have worked closely with the Chinese community in San Francisco Bay Area and conducted multiple studies including web-based intervention with Chinese and Chinese-Americans
