Susan Parker, RDH, BS, MEd, MBA has been a registered dental hygienist for over thirty- five years. Her work has been concentrated in the area of non-surgical clinical Periodontics and writing.Susan worked at the University of Florida in Gainesville and she received her masters in education for allied health professions. Her concentration was Periodontics. She went on to teaching at the University of Texas Dental Branch for a year when New York City requested her to come and work in the Big Apple. After eighteen years of clinical practice Susan came back to her Southern roots and she became involved with the military and dental readiness programs. She was at NSA in New Orleans for two years where she was the first hygienist contracted for her expertise and knowledge in clinical Periodontics.Susan developed the program of Ergonomics for the school early on in 2003 before OSHA had even set guidelines for workers. Back to New Orleans in autumn 2007, she was given an interim chair and her clinical hours were restablished to the predoc dental students. Ergonomics and Tobacco Cessation initiatives are two of her interests in the curriculum. In 2009, Susan was the dental consultant for an episode of the HBO TREME series. Susan has been a peer reviewer for DIMENSIONS since 2004 and she has written articles for the journal since 2009. Ms. Parker learn from the ADA Evidence Panel and Susan has been an ADA evidence-based reviewer since 2010. She currently has seven critical summaries published on the site and two plain language summaries. Susan has worked on IRB study regarding pregnancy outcomes of mothers with periodontal disease and she is presently working on another IRB study about the ‘special populations’ group in dentistry.
Her research interests vary from occupational injuries to special populations and tobacco cessation.
