Biography

Dr. Zhao obtained his M.D. degree from Dalian Medical University of China and earned his Ph.D. in Medical Science studying brain tumor biology and imaging at University of Tsukuba of Japan in 1998. Dr. Zhao then joined the Department of Radiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center and now an Associate Professor of Radiology. His research is focusing on in vivo MRI and optical multimodality imaging of tumor-specific molecular biomarkers, tumor microenvironment and metabolism using animal models of primary brain tumors and brain metastasis. Dr. Zhao has diverse interests in cancer research ranging from microscopic histology, animal models to in vivo multimodal imaging.

Research Interest

IDr. Zhao research intrests includes in vivo imaging to assess tumor microenvironment in primary brain tumors and brain metastases by using molecular and functional multimodal imaging approaches: high-field magnetic resonance imaging (4.7T, 7T, 9.4T MRI), bioluminescent imaging (BLI). Molecular near-infrared optical imaging and MR imaging of tumor specific biomarkers to assist early diagnosis and prognosis of brain tumors of animal models. Exploiting non-proton 19F MR for cancer imaging.
