Biography

Abass Alavi is Professor of Radiology and Neurology. He is currently the Director of Research Education in the Division of Nuclear Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2004, Alavi was awarded the Georg Charles von Hevesy Award from the Society of Nuclear Medicine for his pioneering work in the development of positron emission tomography. He is an internationally renowned expert in the modern imaging sciences and in the clinical applications of PET imaging for the detection of cancer as well as neurological, cardiovascular and infectious disorders.

Research Interest

Abass Alavi research intrests is mainly focused on Clinical applications of PEt-CT-MRI.

Biography

Dr. Mountz is Professor of Radiology and Chief of the Division of Nuclear Medicine in the Department of Radiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He is also Director of the Neuronuclear Medicine Section. In addition, he is Clinical Director of the PET Center and Director of the PET Core Grant for the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. Dr. Mountz obtained his Ph.D. in high energy physics from Michigan State University in 1974 and completed his Doctorate of Medicine Degree at Case Western Reserve University in 1981. He has assumed continuous positions as an imaging researcher, primarily in the area of nuclear medicine applications of radiopharmaceuticals in brain and oncology imaging. Dr. Mountz currently or has been the principal investigator or co-principal investigator on four NIH funded grant applications and several corporate grant applications in addition to Society, foundation and approximately 20 other intramural and extramural grant applications. He has published over 125 peer review manuscripts and over 10 book chapters and presented over 300 peer-reviewed presentations concerning results from these research endeavors.

Research Interest

Dr. Mountz areas of current research primarily involve brain imaging and oncology imaging.
