I have been studying virological matters for many years since I started to study hepatitis B virus research in Graduate School at Osaka University School of Medicine. I have learned a lot from Dr. Ken-ichi Matsubara and Dr. Toshiki Tsurimoto who were mentors at Graduate School, Dr. Koichi Yamanishi who had been Professor, Department of Microbiology at Osaka University School of Medicine, Dr. Norio Hayashi who had been Professor, Gastroenterology at Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine and Dr. Don Ganem who was a mentor when I was a postdoctoral fellow in his Lab at UCSF, through studying hepatitis B virus and Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus and still have been searching for how viruses regulate and/or modulate host cellular functions to maintain themselves.
I would like to clarify total processes how viruses enter into cells, express their genes, amplify the genomes, assemble virus particles and egress out of cells.
