Dear Colleagues,
The worldwide disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in numerous impacts on the environment and therefore the climate. There are clear connections between COVID-19 and therefore the climate crisis. For starters, climate change increases the likelihood of COVID-type pandemics — through changes in the habitats of disease vectors, for example, or increased inter-species contact resulting from deforestation. The considerable decline in planned travel has caused many regions to experience an outsized drop by pollution. In various forms, act caused environmental degradation, an anthropogenic impact. Due to the coronavirus outbreak's impact on travel and industry, many regions and the planet as a whole experienced a drop in air pollution.
Reducing pollution can reduce both global climate change and COVID-19 risks but it's not yet clear which sorts of pollution (if any) are common risks to both climate change and COVID-19. The Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air reported that methods to contain the spread of coronavirus, such as quarantines and travel bans resulted in a 25 per cent reduction of carbon emission in China. Similarly, climate change will generate events that escalate and proliferate, from multiple breadbasket failures to climate-induced conflicts and refugee crises. COVID-19 is in many ways unprecedented, but climate change threatens to produce shocks of greater magnitude that play out over longer timeframes, as highlighted in the IPCC’s special report, Global Warming of 1.5°C. Without sufficient action, the long-term impacts of the climate crisis on health and therefore the economy will play out year after year.
We are also interested in studies and reviews evaluating the positive and negative effects of Role of Climate change during COVID-19 pandemic.
