Biography

Professor Gábor Jancsó graduated and received his M.D. from the University Medical School, Szeged, Hungary, in 1972. Since then he has been working at University of Szeged, at the Deapartment of Anatomy and, from 1981 at the Department of Physiology. He obtained his Ph. D. in 1983, and his D. Sc. in 1994 from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He holds a position of full professor in Physiology since 1995. He has published 120 papers in scientific journals which have been cited more than 5000 times.

Research Interest

Professor Gábor Jancsó’s main research interest is the study of the anatomy and function of the somatosensory system. He has discovered the neurotoxic effect of capsaicin-type compounds. This observation has led to the identification of nociceptive primary sensory neurons. He has particular interest in the mechanisms of pain, neurogenic inflammation, the efferent functions of peptidergic sensory nerves and neuroplastic changes which follow peripheral nerve injuries.
