Biography

Dr. Stefania D’Adamo graduated in Molecular and Cellular Biology from University of Bologna. Achieved the Habilitation to biology profession at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. Later she started her PhD in Biochemical and Biotechnological Sciences at the University of Bologna, studying the mechanisms of action of some nutraceuticals in age-related pathologies. During her PhD program she spent a period for training at Molecular and Experimental Medicine department, The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, USA, where she studied the epigenetic-mediated modulation of autophagy, the evolutionarily conserved recycling pathway activated during prolonged fasting. She is currently a Postdoc researcher at the Department of Biomedical and Neuromotor Sciences, University of Bologna, Italy. She is working on the nutraceutical role in the modulation of some dysregulated pathways implicated in chronic and degenerative pathologies. She has opened a new research line in her lab that focuses on exploring the epigenetic connections between nutraceuticals and defective processes associated with aging.

Research Interest

Her research interests include the identification of key molecular mechanisms underlying the beneficial effect of diet-derived natural compounds in osteoarthritis and cardiovascular diseases. In particular she focuses on the role of microRNAs in orchestrating the nutraceutical response and their protective effect against different cellular stress stimuli in the pathological field of osteoarthritis and heart failure.
