We have integrated a hearing examination protocol into the Jackson Heart Study (JHS), which is
an established population-based cohort study of cardio-vascular disease. Herein is describe the
preliminary cross sectional data analysis of the pure-tone hearing status of a sub-set of 1320 individuals
who have undergone audiometric testing so far. We show a statistically significant association between
several obesity related cardio-metabolic risk factors and hearing loss across different frequency regions
of the cochlea.
