Abstract
Introduction: Tinnitus can bring quite disturbing consequences, impairing normal mental functions work and play rest, social and domestic situations. Thus, the consequences may be psychic level, so that these people show up irritable, anxious, distress, depressed and insomniacs. Objective: To assess the scientific literature the use and effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in the treatment of tinnitus. Bibliographic Survey: Tinnitus treatment using CBT technique is widely and successfully used and researched internationally. Studies show that 50% of patients with tinnitus have average to moderate affective disorder. Patients who somatize their problems in tinnitus are difficult to help. Others become seriously depressed. CBT was originally developed and evaluated in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders. CBT postulates that maladaptive dysfunctional thoughts and beliefs affect the subject?s emotional balance and cognition, and if these thoughts are modified, its emotional problem will be reduced automatically. Based on this and the results of studies, cognitive characteristics are important to psychological adaptation factors for tinnitus patients. Cognitive characteristics as catastrophic thoughts related to tinnitus have a role in pain, severity and discomfort caused by tinnitus. Conclusions: Cognitive interventions can be of great help for physical and psychological adaptation that are important for patients with tinnitus symptoms. Tinnitus treatment using techniques from cognitive behavioral psychology shows promise and effective in the treatment of tinnitus.
