Abstract

Sustainable Development Goal 17 (SDG 17) aims to build global partnerships for development. It makes specific reference to multi-stakeholder collaboration between all sectors of society. While the first sixteen SDGs are dedicated to concrete actions, SDG 17 Partnerships for Development coordinates and facilitates the implementation of the other goals. SDG 17 promotes the 鈥渞ight way鈥� of collaboration between different actors, through the formation of multi-stakeholder partnerships, which are essential to foster sustainable development. Although SDG 17 has it multiple advantage, it also does have its limitations such as the generation of a lessons learned repository to learn how multi-partnerships can become more effective to promote the rest of the SDGs, and that at the moment SDG 17 seems to presently still be more inclined towards the achievement of the economic pillar of sustainability. We analyzed the potential viability of SDG 17 鈥淧artnerships for the goals鈥� (i.e., more specifically Targets 17.16 and 17.17 which relate to multi-stakeholder partnerships) regarding SDG 7 and consequently SDG 13 (relating to climate action). Through the evaluation of two studies located in the southern western part of France, where it is possible to observe how multistakeholder partnerships are important in implementing wind farm development projects, and how the latter can bring about different outcomes; in one instance, the project was rejected as was the case in Liglet, however went forward in the communes of Thollet-Coulonges..

Biography

Deanna Mulvihill has her expertise in evaluation and passion in improving the health and wellbeing. Her open and contextual evaluation model based on responsive constructivists creates new pathways for improving healthcare. She has built this model after years of experience in research, evaluation, teaching and administration both in hospital and education institutions. The foundation is based on fourth generation evaluation (Guba& Lincoln, 1989) which is a methodology that utilizes the previous generations of evaluation: measurement, description and judgment. It allows for value-pluralism. This approach is responsive to all stakeholders and has a different way of focusing.
