John S. Hill

Biography

Dr. Hill received his undergraduate (BMLSc) and graduate training (MSc, PhD) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in the Faculty of Medicine within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, completing his training in 1994. His field of study has been concerned with lipid and lipoprotein research and its relationship with coronary artery disease. He completed a three-year postdoctoral fellowship in the Lipid Research Laboratory at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) before beginning his appointment at UBC in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in 1998. Currently, Dr. Hill is the Director of the Atherosclerosis Specialty Laboratory (ASL) at St. Pauls Hospital. As one of the laboratories of the UBC James Hogg Research Centre at the Heart and Lung Institute, the ASL applies multiple strategies to discover new methodologies for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart disease. These strategies include the collection and analysis of clinical, biochemical and genetic data from patients attending St. Paul’s Hospital, as well as the pursuit of basic science research of macrophage cell biology utilizing advanced tools of the disciplines of biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, and in vivo mouse models.

Diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart disease resulting from the accumulation of fatty plaques in the coronary arteries. Disciplines of biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology.
