Dr. Sandra Bassett is a senior lecturer in the Department of Physiotherapy, Auckland University of Technology, Auckland, New Zealand. She has a Diploma in Physiotherapy (Otago), BA, MHSc(Hons) in behavioural sciences and a Ph.D. in rehabilitation psychology from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Sandra lectures physiotherapy students in area of the psychological effects of physiotherapy; adherence issues in physiotherapy and therapeutic exercise programmes; the use of behaviour change strategies and patient education techniques that enhance adherence to physiotherapy treatment programmes. She also teaches quantitative research methods and statistics to post-graduate students, and supervising post-graduate research students undertaking theses in topic areas relevant to her research and lecturing interests.
Dr. Sandra Bassett research interests include Rehabilitation psychology applied within the context of physiotherapy, and primarily use experimental and non-experimental quantitative research methods. Sandra’s research involves adherence issues in physiotherapy; development and testing of behavior change methods and patient education strategies as adherence enhancing adjuncts to physiotherapy; psychological and behavioral factors that influence the development of people’s beliefs and attitudes about their injury or illness, treatment and therapeutic exercise programs. This research has been published in international peer reviewed journals.
