Jean-Paul Squifflet is Professor of Surgery Transplantation and Endocrine Surgery at the University of Liege (Belgium). He is also Associated Professor at the State University of Moldova, faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy.
Since October 2011, he is working as a consultant at the CHU Sart Tilman, in Liege, developing the Renal and Pancreatic Transplantation and Organ Procurement program in the Department of Abdominal, Endocrine Surgery and Transplantation. He is also performing Endocrine Surgery at the Chirec Cancer Institute in Brussels (Belgium). Prior to this, from 1992 to 2005, he had been Head of the Department of Endocrine Surgery, Renal and Pancreatic Transplantation and Organ Procurement at the University of Louvain Clinic Saint Luc in Brussels, Belgium, where he was also Professor of Surgery. From 2005 to 2011, he was chief of clinics at the CHU Sart Tilman, in Liege, (Belgium).
Jean-Paul Squifflet obtained his medical degree in 1970 from the University of Louvain Medical School. After gaining experience in surgery and renal transplantation at the Universities of Louvain and Geneva, he was in charge of the Pancreas Transplantation Program at U.C.L., where he performed the first pancreas transplantation in Belgium, in November 1982. He also launched a human islet isolation laboratory.
During his career, he spent several periods abroad, working in several hospitals in New York, Geneva, and at the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, USA) with Professor D.E.R. Sutherland and J.S. Najarian.
Professor J.-P. Squifflet is a member of several scientific societies and serves on the Editorial Board of numerous medical journals. He is Past-President of the Royal Belgian Society for Surgery, Past-President of the Council of Physicians (Belgium, Province of Brabant), Recipient of the Nessim Habif Price of Surgery (University of Geneva 2000) and the EURO-SPK speaker since 1998. He was also the Chairman of the Belgian Section for Endocrine Surgery; he is currently the Past President of the French Speaking Society of Transplantation
