Abstract
Objective: To investigate the short-term efficacy and influence of sexual functions on two different types of hysterectomy such as total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH) and laparoscopic hysterectomy (LH). Methods: The retrospective study of four years was reviewed from January 2009 to December 2012. The sample of the study included a total of 200 patients with benign disorders who underwent hysterectomy (100 TAH and 100 LH), and was analyzed for the differences in the operation time, bleeding volume, postoperative hospital stay and postoperative sexual satisfaction after 12 months. Results: The operation time of TAH groupand LH group was (87±33) min, and (128±11) min, respectively; intraoperative blood loss respectively are 155±28 ml, 108±37 ml; hospital stay respectively 8.23±1.56 d, 5.45±1.90 d; the difference were significant between two groups (P<0.05). The time it took to return to the normal sexual life were 51±11 d for TAH, and 53±9 d for LH. And no significant differences were found between the two patient groups. Also our study did not find any significant change in the sexual satisfactory levels between the groups who opted different type of hysterectomy. Conclusion: This study implies that laparoscopic hysterectomy has smaller trauma, faster recovery, and shorter hospitalization time, than abdominal hysterectomy. And the sexual life of the patients did not influence much before and after the different types of surgical techniques preferred.
