Abstract

Why all those consuming alcohol or drugs are not addict? Are drugs or alcohol having addiction potential in them or something else unexplored is responsible? Indian studies have shown 80% of addict has shown 35% higher Score of Depression on Hamilton Depression (HAM-D) scale than non addict. Another Indian studies have shown the high prevalence of association of or presence of psychosocial problems & cultural misconceptions. Another Indian studies on outcome of single diagnosis vs. Dual diagnosis has 45% better outcome in quality of life. Another study on treatment approach has shown that single diagnosis and its treatment approach v/s dual diagnosis with multipronged treatment approach has shown better outcome and less relapses. Alcohol standard treatment includes only anti-alcohol drug regimen with various medication to counter craving. Dual diagnosis and therapy includes addition of anti-depressant medication with specific dietary supplement support with Neuro--stimulation therapy (rTMS) & Ontological Psychotherapy or insight oriented psychotherapy has shown marked reduction in Hospitalization stay, cost & reduced relapse, with better outcome. Dual diagnosis and its treatment with multipronged therapy seem to be promising future to have not only Drug Free America but drug free world.

Goyal Vinod Kumar is the Owner of Parth Hospitals specialised in identification, assessment and treatment with Integrative Therapy in all Mental Health problems, for all ages, with medicine and psychotherapy and neurostimulation therapy for 30 years.
