In this study a three-dimensional hydrodynamic model (COHERENS) has been employed in order to describe the variability
of the Arvand River?s Plume. This river which is situated at the northern part of the Persian Gulf is the largest river which
discharges in to the Persian Gulf. The model based on 159×117 grids including the whole Persian Gulf and some part of the
Oman Sea. The model has 10 sigma levels. The input of the model are including 54 years meteorological data from NOAA
(1948-2002) (wind, air temperature, evaporation, relative humidity and precipitation), major tidal constituent (O1, K1, M2
and S2) and also monthly mean of river discharge, temperature and salinity. The model has been run for 15 years to reach to
the steady state. Results of the model showing that the Coriolis force affecting the plume and turn it to the right toward Kuwait
and Saudi Arabia coasts. The fresh water of the plume enters the saline water of the Persian Gulf from the surface and mixes in
the environmental waters rapidly. River discharge leads to drawing of a classical river plume of a width of 62-74 km. There is a
very good agreement between the model finding and previous field measurement.
