Biography
As a staff scientist at National Cancer Research institute in Japan, I am currently responsible for the laboratory-based research. My research interest has been focus on understanding the molecular mechanism of lung carcinogenesis. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death both in Asian and Western countries. In particular, the proportion of females and never smokers among lung adenocarcinoma patients is considerably higher in Asians than in Europeans, suggesting that Asians experience a distinct effect of genetic factors than Europeans. I and our collaborators performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of lung adenocarcinoma in the Japanese population. In a series of publications [Nature Genetics 2012, 44: 900, Nature Genet. 2012, 44: 1330], two lung adenocarcinoma susceptibility genes, BPTF at 17q24.3 and BTNL2 at 6p21.3 were identified.
