Biography
Mr. LiPuma holds both Bachelors (1984) and Masters (1986) degrees in philosophy from the University of Dayton and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Bioethics from Cleveland State University (2003). He holds the rank of Associate Professor of Philosophy at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio. He has been teaching course work in philosophy with a concentration in bioethics since 1991. He is currently a member of the Bioethics Network of Ohio (BENO) and published an article for the Bioethics Quarterly titled The Minimalist Conception of Autonomy in the fall of 2005 after completing more advanced course work in bioethics at Cleveland State with Dr. Joseph DeMarco. He has publications in the American Journal of Bioethics (June, 2011) and the Journal of Medicine and Philosophy (forthcoming). His current areas of research include palliative sedation therapies and the determination of death. He plans on submitting a coauthored paper with Dr. DeMarco in February of 2012 in which they defend the concept of higher brain death.
