Biography

Dr Claire Mills is a Senior Lecturer, ISAK Kinanthropometrist and Higher Education Fellow in the School of Sport and Exercise at the University of Gloucestershire, UK, where she contributes to sport and exercise programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Claire’s research interests predominately lies in body composition and she is actively involved with consultancy work with professional athletes in a range of individual and team based sports. Her PhD focused on the development of a sport specific anthropometric calibration model to estimate body composition of professional football players. Her expertise in body composition has enabled her to embed cutting edge research into lectures and she has been able to transfer these skills and energies into the area of obesity. As a regular speaker in primary and secondary schools to teachers, pupils and parents, she delivers information on the importance of overweightness, weight management, physical activity levels and healthy lifestyles of school children. She is particularly passionate with the use of bariatric weighted suits and its impact on physiological functioning and body image thus providing an interesting twist on what it is like to be obese.
