Prostate cancer was initially evaluated primarily by T1 and T2 weighted imaging, but recently multiparametric imaging has
been introduced. This includes diffusion-weighted imaging and dynamic contrast enhanced imaging. Spectroscopy can
also be used in the research setting. Among commonly clinically utilized methods, diffusion-weighted imaging has advantages
of short acquisition times, no need for intravenous administration of contrast medium, and the ability to study diffusion
of water molecules that indirectly reflects tissue cellularity. Meta-analysis was performed including >5800 lesions and was
evaluated using Bayesian receiver operating characteristics. It suggests that DWI improves diagnostic performance and can be
a useful adjunct to conventional imaging for identifying prostate cancer within the prostate gland. Example images of prostate
cancer and its staging will be demonstrated.
