Biography

PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology, [Jan 2021 - Now], University of Southern Mississippi, USA Supervisor: Dr. Alex Flynt

On my doctorate, I work on several projects and collaborate with different labs outside my specialty yet bridging the gap between these labs and mine. Due to the broad affiliation and network of my supervisor with several labs, I have ongoing projects with Universities in New York, Jackson, Starkville etc. and with Chemistry and polymer engineering labs. The focus of my doctorate project however is on small RNA’s. In 1993 the first miRNA was discovered and now there are over 2000 miRNAs. The revolution to science due to the application of smarter techniques and HTS, enabled discovery of new non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression (i.e. miRNA). I am focusing on identifying alternative biogenesis pathways non-coding RNA in cell lines and other animal models.

M. Science in Bioinformatics, [Sept 2020 - uncompleted], Saarland University, Germany. Core courses: Modern methods in drug discovery, cellular programs, computational biology and bioinformatic tools.

M. Science in Infection Biology, [Sept 2017 - Nov 2018], University of Glasgow, UK Thesis at MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (MRC) Glasgow, United Kingdom Supervisor: Dr. Emma Thomson. Research Project: Using the E. coli Expression System for Rhabdoviral Protein Expression and ELISA Development. The project involved expression of proteins using a mammalian and bacterial expression system, Western blotting, cloning, PCR assays, Sanger sequencing, cell culture, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and development of pseudoparticles for neutralization assays. Result awarded; A4 - distinction. Courses: Molecular Research Skills, Host Pathogen Interactions, Diagnostic Technologies and Devices, Emerging Viruses, Bio-Imaging, bioinformatics, Designing a Research Project.

B. Science in Microbiology (First Class), [Oct 2011- July 2015], Landmark University, Nigeria Supervisor: Dr. James Ndako. Research Project: I investigated the Prevalence of Hepatitis C Virus among Diabetic patients in Omu-Aran Community, Nigeria. Over 100 sera from patients were assayed for the HCV antibodies using ELISA and liver function tested using the alanine aminotransferase assay. The research led to health-related public engagement activities in the community to communicate awareness on the need for routine medical examination. Result awarded; A1 - distinction. Core Courses: Cell biology, Chemistry, Mathematics; Statistics, Algebra and calculus, Genetics, Biostatistics, Molecular biology, Bioinformatics, Physics, Mycology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Virology, Bacteriology, Microbiology; Pharmaceutical, Industrial, soil, food. In each of these courses, I was exposed to practical classes that have given me the applied knowledge of each field.

Research Interest

Experience in Microbiology, Virology, Bioinformatics, Bioimaging, Genetics, Cell and Molecular Biology. My research experience cuts across several Life sciences, Chemistry and Polymer engineering laboratories. My interest lies in employing my research-, clinical- and computational- skills in RNA biology and computational studies.
