Lose weight, then gain it back. Its a devastating pattern for overweight individuals. But its even worse for people who lose one
hundred pounds or more, and regain it all. And its devastating for those who have bariatric surgery procedures that initially
work, but fail to bring long-term success. This presentation will focus on common psychological barriers that cause dieters
to struggle and eventually regain weight they had lost. Based on current research along with best practices in the weight-loss
industry, well explore how to recognize these barriers and provide input and solutions that will drastically improve outcomes.
Initially, well look at common issues such as low motivation, perfectionism and emotional eating. But well also dig into more
challenging areas such as sabotage as well as difficult emotions such as anger, bitterness, and resentment and disappointment.
Well explore how past traumatic events such as assault can block dieters from dropping below a specific weight number. Last,
well look at ways grief and loss can push people toward using food to help cope with emotional pain.
Based on the presenters research and work as a weight-loss coach over the past 25 years, youll discover how to recognize
these psychological barriers as well as simple ways to integrate a wide range of solutions into any type of obesity treatment
program. By changing program outcomes, youll also create a more effective business model that will improve compliance and
retention rates, resulting in satisfied customers and increased referrals.
