Biography

Dr Moalem-Taylor is a Senior Lecturer / Research Fellow at the Department of Anatomy, school of Medical Sciences, University of New South Wales. Since graduating with a PhD from the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel, Moalem-Taylor has worked primarily in the area of neuroimmunology. Her current research focuses on the role of immune cells and their mediators in chronic neuropathic pain following peripheral nerve injury, autoimmune disease of the peripheral nervous system (experimental autoimmune neuritis; a model of Guillain-Barre Syndrome), and autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis; a model of multiple sclerosis). She uses both in vivo and in vitro methods including: animal models of neuropathic pain, behavioural measurements of pain sensitivity, cellular immunology, biochemistry, and immunohistochemistry of nervous system tissues, to understand the effects of immune and inflammatory responses on chronic pain following damage to the nervous system.
