Jesica Raingo, PhD

Dr. Raingo obtained PhD at University of La Plata, during her thesis she studied the electrophysiological properties of human vascular smooth muscle cells. After graduation she did two postdoctoral trainings in the Lipscombe Lab at Brown University and at the Kavalali Lab at UT Southwestern. She acquired a specific background in calcium channels physiology, especially the diferential modulation of its splicing isoforms by G protein coupled receptors (GPCR) and in synaptic activity with emphasis in calcium dependency of synaptic vesicles release. In 2010, she joined the IMBICE to start the Electrophysiology lab. Her research group focuses in the role of calcium channels as targets of neuronal presynaptic GPCR. They are currently studying the impact of genetic variability of the human opioid receptor on inhibition of calcium channel in sensory neurons, as a mechanism to control pain signal, and we also investigate the effect of neuropeptides receptors on calcium channels of appetite controlling neurons.
