Biography

Dr. Shamsuddin Akhtar received his MBBS degrees from the Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan, and his residency in Anesthesiology from State University of New York at Stony Brook, New York. He subsequently went on to do fellowship in Critical Care Anesthesiology at Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and Vascular and Thoracic Anesthesia fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, all in USA from 1991-1998. He joined faculty of the Department of Anesthesiology, Yale University School of Medicine after his fellowship and is currently Associate Professor of Anesthesiology. He is an author of 32 articles, book chapters, editorial and 32 abstracts. He is Director of Medical Studies, in his department Chair of the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiology Publication Committee and a manuscript reviewer of number of journals.

His major area of research and clinical interest are: care of the high-risk patient undergoing non-cardiac surgery, Perioperative glycemic control, Perioperative care of geriatric patient and critical care, Vascular, Thoracic, Geriatric, High-risk anesthesia, General anesthesia: Critical care, Perioperative & Adult Anesthesiology
